Not Klutzy...but Kamikaze

Almost two weeks ago - the same day he learned to ride his bike - Cameron took a spill that landed us in the ER - and not from falling off his bike. After marking "learn to ride a bike" off his bucket list, we were back at home playing outside and voila, life happened. Greg and I had been doing some yard work and planting and the boys wandered over to Mr. Bud and Ms. Monica's house - our favorite next door neighbors and the best neighbors EVER. Bud and Monica have an antique metal tricycle and Cameron LOVES to ride around on it. The thing squeaks to all get out, but no problem, Mr. Bud helped out and after about ten minutes of hearing that thing squeak down his driveway, he greased the wheels. yay. So, this is how it went - Cameron on front, Caleb on back (of a tricycle!!) and down they go the neighbors driveway (that has a downhill slope). This was working just fine and they were having a great time, then they decided to take a short break and help Bud and Monica shovel mulch into flowerbeds. Well, the mulch got all in their shoes, so they discarded those and kept going. They soon grew weary of the work and decided to get back on the tricycle. Weeeelllll, the only brakes the boys had when previously on the tricycle were Cameron's feet dragging as they neared the end of the drive. Sooooo, this time around, they get on, and then, and only then, does Cameron realize his brakes have no shoes on them. uh oh. So, as they near the middle of the downhill slope, Cameron decides that he will take a sharp right turn up the sidewalk in order to abrupt the downhill ride and slow them down. This could have potentially worked marvelously except that the heavier kid sitting on the back of the trike had no idea and the weight shift as Cameron turned his body right and Caleb did not created a predictable problem. So topple they did. Lucky for Caleb, Cameron broke his fall. But, Cameron broke his own fall with his chin.

These pictures are a couple of days after the fact because a friend of mine was borrowing our camera for a project. Our ER visit glued Humpty Dumpty back together again. Hindsight 20/20, he should have had stitches but the unfair asking (in front of the child) of shots, needles and stitches vs. painless glue left the mom who didn't want to be the bad guy with only one choice. ugh.

Oh, and the nurse in the ER asked if Cameron was klutzy. I said, "absolutely not, he's kamikaze." Keep the bed ready for us - I'm sure we'll be back. again. and again.
